SSS is currently seeking a SAS Programmer for Public Health Research to serve on a multi-disciplinary team that conducts analyses and reports on findings from clinical- and population-based epidemiological studies on behalf of the federal government. The studies we conduct focus on the impact of the physical and social environment on human health and well-being, as well as genetic, occupational, and lifestyle risk factors. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes data managers, analysts, and operations staff. You will provide data management support for these studies by developing programs to build study datasets, as well as to generate reports to inform the progress of the studies and to summarize the study data from a scientific and operational perspective. This position offers opportunities for professional development, innovation, and collaboration across disciplines.

Our ideal candidate for this position would have prior experience conducting public health research, excellent communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Writing, testing, and revising SAS programs
  • Working with members of the study team to develop specifications for programs and reports
  • Designing, implementing, and monitoring outreach efforts to study participants
  • Creating and interpreting reports for internal and external study monitoring purposes
  • Constructing code books and format files
  • Creating analytic datasets
  • Fulfillment of data requests for internal and external clients
  • Conducting quality control of previously written statistical and data management programs
  • Testing and validating data collection procedures and systems
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of data management plans
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in computer sciences, health sciences, or other related field
  • One or more years of SAS programming and data management experience in health research, which includes writing SAS programs for cleaning, monitoring, and reporting of study data as well as writing SAS programs to generate analytical datasets.
  • Experience with other statistical software such as R and data collection systems such as REDCap is highly desirable.
  • Experience with epidemiological or clinical research studies sponsored by the federal government preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills when interfacing with colleagues, project leaders, and clients
  • Actively collaborates with other data managers and staff from other functional areas to plan, implement, monitor, and complete assignments
  • Applies a systematic approach to complete tasks that involve ambiguity, uncertainty, and other challenges
  • Embraces and engages in “thinking outside the box” when faced with difficult challenges.
