JMT is seeking a Bridge Structural Design Engineer to join their Bridge Group in Charleston, South Carolina. The successful candidate will be responsible for bridge engineering design using knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate structural engineering assignments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design computations
  • Analyze geotechnical and survey reports, maps, drawings, photography, and other engineering topographical or geologic data to design, specify and plan projects
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drafting tools
  • Develop construction cost estimates and specifications
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
  • Assigned projects may include design and drawing preparation of bridges, waterfront structures, retaining walls, repair and restoration of existing structures, and bridge load ratings and repairs, bridge and waterfront structure inspections.

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
  • Microsoft Office
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
  • New grad or up to 4 years of experience

Preferred Experience

  • Engineer-in-training certification
  • Related experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 90% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
