Job Summary

The Chaplain Resident is a one-year position in the Pastoral Services Department. The positions function through the Clinical Pastoral Education program accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE, Inc.). CPE Chaplain Residency program provides the necessary training for board certified chaplains through the Association for Professional Chaplains, Inc. (APC, Inc.). The Chaplain Resident is expected to perform as a professional Chaplain in providing direct patient, family and staff pastoral care. The Chaplain Resident is responsible for consultation and involvement with the interdisciplinary staff regarding spiritual assessment and patient care. The Chaplain Resident is expected to function in accordance with the \"Rights and Responsibilities of Chaplain Residents\" outlined in the letter of agreement signed at the beginning of the CPE program year. All Chaplain Residents participate in the on-call rotation for the Pastoral Care Services department and lead worship services in the hospital chapel

Accountabilities

  • Pastoral Function: Respond by phone to all emergency pages while serving as the On Call Chaplain within 15 minutes.\u00A0 Complete pastoral visitation to all Soarian generated patient / family\u00A0referrals\u00A0for your assigned clinical\u00A0areas within 24 hours and document your response within the same time frame.\u00A0 Participate in patient consultations with the interdisciplinary team on your assigned clinical areas as requested.\u00A0 Lead worship services as assigned and / or scheduled.
  • Student Function:\u00A0 Participate fully in the learning activities that are a part of the educational program for each unit of CPE in which you are enrolled.\u00A0 "Learning activities" include Pastoral Care Seminars, individual and peer supervision and other activities that are described in each unit's syllabus.\u00A0 \u00A0\u00A0

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education - Bachelor's Degree - required; Master's Degree - Theology or Divinity; or education for ministry as required by the resident\u2019s denomination - Preferred
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of one accredited unit of\u00A0 CPE with an accredited CPE training center - Preferred
  • Experience - No previous experience required.
  • Ecclesiastical Ordination or endorsement by applicant's faith group - Preferred
  • Experience in pastoral work - Preferred
