Responsibilities and Expectations:

We are looking for a dedicated Winder Lead to join our team. This position is responsible for rewinding various kinds of basic electromechanical equipment including removing the original winding, inspecting for winding failure damage, recording data from the original winding, making new coils, and winding, and performing voltage testing on standard/basic windings.

  • Assign tasks to qualified personnel within the department
  • Train employees to perform operations within the department
  • Report employee performance to the Supervisor
  • Inspect various kinds of electro-mechanical equipment for damage and evidence of electrical malfunctions
  • Test condition of windings according to EASA and IEEE Standard
  • Illustrate and/or document all relevant data specific to the unit's electromagnetic characteristics, operating conditions, existing damage, or intended serviceability
  • Dismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable electro-mechanical equipment
  • Prepare all reusable parts for rewinding and inspect renewed parts for hidden, structural damage or unusual conditions
  • Rewind various kinds of electro-mechanical equipment, including but not limited tothree-phase, dc fields, armatures, wound rotors, and transformers. Observe proper insulating techniques and/or requirements during rewinding
  • Test rewound electro-mechanical equipment according to EASA Standards and document test results
  • Complete the required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment, including but not limited to winding machines, test panels, surge testers, core-loss testers, cut-off saws, burnout ovens, back ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems and various hand-held power and non-power tools
  • Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.)
  • Keep work area clean and organized

Qualification and Competencies:

  • Experience in rewinding AC and DC electric motors
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Participates in meetings
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information
  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences
  • Ability to add, and subtracttwo-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Must be able to read a measuring tape
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should know basic computer applications
  • Mechanical aptitude required
  • Prior experience working as a Winder desired
  • Certification from a Technical school helpful
