POSITION TITLE

Advanced Research Mechanical Engineer I,Textile Division

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for inventing, leading, developing/validating, and commercializing new growth products within our innovation process. This position requires a strong aptitude and desire for experimental work specifically with mechanical engineering and control systems, use of scientific method, and clear communication of results. The applicant will also be involved across the entire spectrum of new product development: customer contact, ideation, proof of concept, development, validation, regulatory, intellectual property, pilot plant, process development, product support, and technical associate administration. The position is located at Milliken & Company's corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC and reports through the Textile Division Research organization. Occasional to frequent visits to external customers, production facilities, and conferences are expected.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Invent, protect, contribute, and/or implement key growth projects.
  • Manage projects with cross-functional teams (from invention to commercialization)
  • Become technology leader in key areas such as control systems, machine design, and automation.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and implement control systems, incorporating elements like PLCs, motors, drives, and feedback mechanisms for both existing and new machinery.
  • Manage laboratory, laboratory safety, equipment, and technical associate
  • Enhance product quality, streamline manufacturing processes, and optimize costs.
  • Preserve existing business, while also securing new opportunities through problem-solving, fresh ideas, product development, competitive analysis, and application value assessment
  • Adapt and apply novel applications, technologies, and methodologies
  • Independently spearhead projects and laboratory experiments
  • Provide long-lasting solutions by securing intellectual property rights

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering or BS with relevant experience outside of academia.
  • Experience with control systems and automation encouraged
  • Proficient in experimental design and analysis
  • A track record of resolving issues independently
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey value and implications effectively.
  • Demonstrated history of teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, and organizational abilities.
