About the Career:

GEL is seeking a key player to join our dynamic team of professionals in our Charleston, SC office. This position provides an opportunity for an industrial hygiene technician to join the GEL team of engineering and environmental scientists to provide a comprehensive range of services to our clients.

What You'll Learn and Achieve:

Specific Duties:

  • Perform field sample collection including asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, indoor air quality, noise level measurements, and industrial hygiene (personal chemical exposure), heat stress, and other environmental samples.
  • Document all field work and prepare results in written format for review by senior staff.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and order equipment and supplies as required.
  • Assist with tasks of various scope with supervision from Project Manager or Supervisor; tasks include logging in field samples, becoming proficient with and understanding U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)/South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory requirements, data entry, performing basic QA/QC tasks, and assisting in report production.
  • Conduct basic calculations.
  • Keeps abreast of technology and current issues through training.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • High school diploma.
  • Computer Skills (including MS Word and Excel).
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Written Communication Skills.
  • Physical Strength and Endurance to Perform Field Work (working outside, climbing, and light lifting).
  • Successfully pass a physical drug, and background check.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with the following certifications:
    • DHEC Asbestos Inspector certification
    • DHEC Asbestos Supervisor certification
    • DHEC Asbestos Air Sampler certification
    • EPA Lead-Based Paint Inspector Certification
    • HAZWOPER training
