Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs; as the Regulatory Affairs Product Safety Compliance Engineer is responsible for maintaining consistent awareness of global laws, regulations, and consumer demands that impact food contact, food additive, pharmaceutical, and medical device categories. In this role, he/she will also provide tactical and strategic product safety/regulatory details/direction and identify process improvements, policies and protocols as they relate to product safety activities within the business units and customer requests.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design, implement and manage programs, policies, and practices to ensure that all Sonoco Consumer products are compliant with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements both domestically and internationally.
  • Represent Compliance in cross-functional teams to provide strategic regulatory compliance advice working closely with R&D, Supply Management, Quality, General Counsel, and suppliers.
  • Review new and existing products, ensuring compliance with FDA, CFIA, EU and other global regions of distribution.
  • Create migration plans where needed and collate regulatory documentation.
  • Document and communicate compliance status to stakeholders.
  • Manage, review, and approve all compliance documentation and notifications.
  • Responsible for determining applicable product safety and compliance requirements and the means of demonstrating compliance in each case.
  • Communicate with colleagues of all levels, supply most current approval documentation, and educate personnel and customers about complex global product compliance topics.
  • Able to work with both management and colleagues; coordinate information among departments and educate design teams about mandatory and applicable product regulations
  • Identify and track development of key regulatory update in accordance with corporate strategy.

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years in Regulatory, Packaging, Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Science, and/or related area.
  • In addition to the regulatory aspect, it is preferred that the candidate has project management experience.
  • Extensive global regulatory knowledge/experience in a food contact application.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of required compliance test requirements for food contact and/or pharma/med device.
  • Strong prioritization skills.
  • Capability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Able to work independently and make recommendations and decisions.
  • Willing to take challenges, hardworking, self-motivated, and dependable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, and Excel along with the ability to learn other systems as needed.
  • Extensive knowledge of one or more of the following regulatory bodies; US, South Africa, EU, South America, and/or Asia, specifically as it relates to Food Contact regulations.
  • Direct experience in working with Global regulatory and consumer safety requirements and standards pertaining to food contact products, (pharmaceutical, and medical device a plus).

Compensation:

The salary range for the Regulatory Affairs Product Safety Compliance Engineer III position is $89,925 to $107,910.

Regulatory Affairs Product Safety Compliance Engineer IV is $104,325 to $125,190

Regulatory Affairs Product Safety Compliance Engineer V is $116,625 to $139,950
