Job Purpose

The Systems Engineer plans, designs, and manages the installation, configuration, and tuning of virtual Cloud servers and services in AWS and Azure data centers in accordance with best practices, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability for all customers in a 24x7x365 enterprise systems environment. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation. This individual ensures that systems hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational policies. This individual performs in conjunction with Network Engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical consulting during the Initiation and Planning phases of projects which includes: the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing, and deployment of solutions.
  • Accountable for all Cloud server and Cloud storage services: Windows Server, VMware, and Linux systems. Responsibilities on these systems include design, engineering, provisioning, operations and support, maintenance, and research and development to ensure continual innovation and optimization.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot Microsoft enterprise services such as SQL, Systems Center, Active Directory, and Windows Server.
  • Install new or rebuild existing servers and configure virtual machines, hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with industry and vendor supported standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Maintain partnerships and leverage market technologies associated with Cloud vendors, product enhancements, and product roadmaps to determine how they can be beneficially applied to Regional Management Corp.
  • Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches for systems administration tasks.
  • Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Contribute to and maintain capacity planning, performance analysis, develop disaster recovery plans, lead efforts towards storage consolidation and identify storage growth, manage configurations of storage media and storage management software.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot data replication, snap shots and virtualization technology.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and off-site backups are successfully created.
  • Organize, schedule, communicate, and perform annual Disaster Recovery testing.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent systems provisioning, uptime, regulatory compliance, and data protection.
  • Ensure information security is maintained across all systems and environments.
  • Apply system patches and upgrades, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning and provide future projected growth estimates.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Provide Tier III and other support per requests from various entities.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
  • Coordinate and communicate with impacted entities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science or 4+ years of experience with planning, designing, configuring, and supporting large enterprise environments.
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer/SAN certification (Microsoft, VMware, or Linux)
  • 4+ years of system administration experience performing capacity planning, performance analysis, and development of data disaster recovery plans.
  • Willingness to manage a 24x7x365 server, storage, and backup environment including on-call rotation, weekend work, etc.
  • Must pass pre-employment screenings.
