Job Summary: Provides nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, treatment plans and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Performs crisis intervention. Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  1. Ability to perform nursing assessments on all clients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and the general client population.
  2. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the client and family regarding pain management.
  3. Performs thorough client psychiatric interviews.
  4. Continuously observes client's behavior, mental status and activities.
  5. Formulates and implements client treatment plans; family is included when appropriate.
  6. Revises treatment plans as indicated by the client's response to treatment and evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  7. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
  8. Knowledgeable of medications including psychotropic drugs and their correct administration based on the age of the client and their clinical condition.
  9. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  10. Performs client care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for client's age.
  11. Demonstrates the ability to perform crisis intervention and triage.
  12. Provides psychotherapeutic treatments to clients and families; individual sessions, groups, family sessions and educational classes.
  13. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  14. Coordinates and supervises client care as necessary.
  15. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Nurse Manager, coworkers and physicians.
  16. Concurs with members of the treatment team for the benefit of the client.
  17. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the client's needs.
  18. Treats clients and families with respect and dignity; provides emotional support.
  19. Performs all aspects of client care in an environment that optimizes client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  20. Provides education to the client and family concerning treatment plans, compliance with the treatment plan, medications and their side effects.
  21. Functions as a client and family advocate at all times.
  22. Orients new staff members and students.
  23. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  24. Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
  25. Completes annual educational Requirements
  26. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of client including, pediatric, adolescent, adult and the geriatric population.

Qualifications

Professional Requirements:

  1. Ensures client confidentiality and complies with HIPAA guidelines at all times.
  2. Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
  3. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  4. Complies with all organizational policies regarding corporate compliance and ethical business practices.
  5. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility as well as the focus statement of the department.
  6. Maintains regulatory requirements

Other Professional Requirements:

  • Meets dress code standards; appearance is professional, neat and clean.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Regulatory Requirements:

  1. Current state Registered Nurse Licensure.
  2. Current CPR certification.
  3. Current CPI certification preferred.
  4. A minimum of one (1) year experience in a behavioral health facilities preferred.
