S&ME is seeking an individual to join our Environmental team in Columbia, South Carolina as an Archaeological Crew Chief and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.


What You Will Do:

As an Archaeological Crew Chief, you will work under close technical supervision, you will delve into archaeological fieldwork and historical research, contributing to cultural resource projects that enrich our understanding of the past.

  • Fieldwork and Research: Engage in archaeological fieldwork and background research with meticulous attention to detail. Your role will involve artifact collection and basic historical research, laying the groundwork for uncovering fascinating narratives from the past.
  • Laboratory Activities: Execute laboratory activities with precision, including the processing of artifacts. Your contributions will be integral to the analysis and interpretation of archaeological finds, shedding light on ancient civilizations and cultures.
  • Supervision and Coordination: Collaborate closely with the field director and archaeologists in organizing and supervising field and lab technicians. Your leadership skills will ensure smooth operations and effective teamwork throughout project endeavors.

Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or closely related discipline
  • You have completed an archaeological field school
  • You can complete physically demanding tasks
  • You are willing to work outdoors in harsh weather and environmental conditions
  • You are willing to travel (extensively) throughout the Midwest, East, and South.
  • You have experience analyzing artifacts, both prehistoric and historic, a plus
  • You have working GIS software, GPS/Trimble, and compass skills
  • You have experience working with other CRM firms

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. The successful candidate must meet the requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy, and Reference Check Program.
