Regional Management Corp. Position Overview: The Associate Counsel will report to the Company's General Counsel and will work closely with other attorneys and staff in the Company's Legal Department and Human Resources Department. This position will assist in protecting the Company's legal interest and in maintaining its operations within the scope of established law. The Associate Counsel is responsible for identifying and analyzing legal issues, assisting in the drafting of key documents, obtaining and overseeing the work of outside counsel, assisting in the negotiation of Company contracts, assisting in the development of corporate policies, procedures, and programs, presenting clear recommendations to management, and otherwise assuring legal compliance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the Company's litigation portfolio, including the engagement and management of outside legal counsel
  • Advise on employment law matters, including the engagement and management of outside legal counsel
  • Review and negotiate Company contracts
  • Assist in the creation and drafting of Company policies, procedures, and programs
  • Advise on and perform tasks related to the legal aspects of the Company's business
  • Keep current with industry changes, including relevant federal, state, and local legal developments
  • Work cooperatively and strategically with other departments to advise on matters consistent with applicable laws and regulations
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, as needed

Working Conditions

  • Works in an office environment
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally

Education and Qualifications

  • Law degree and admitted to a state bar
  • Three to five years of experience in the legal field; employment law and litigation experience preferred
  • Multi-state experience preferred
  • Ability to research laws and regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail, professional written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and growth oriented environment
  • Ability to travel 5-10%
  • Financial services industry experience a plus
