WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING DAY-TO DAY:

  • Conduct project site visits to monitor and observe construction of federal construction, municipal construction (roadway, drainage, and stormwater), utility construction (water, wastewater, gas), and private development projects (commercial sites) for compliance with contract documents.
  • Coordinate with contractors, design team and owners.
  • Review and interpret contract documents, construction contracts, drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare daily and periodic field observation reports and distribute to project team. Review and comment on reports prepared by others when necessary.
  • Coordinate with field crews for survey and testing as required by the contract, and review construction materials testing reports prepared by third party testing agencies.
  • Witness and document acceptance testing at various stages of construction.
  • Solve problems in a timely manner (involving appropriate parties) during various stages of construction.
  • Schedule, conduct and prepare documentation for substantial completion and final completion inspections, including punch lists.
  • Review monthly pay applications provided by the contractor and confirm quantities. * Review redlines and coordinate preparation of record drawings.
  • Review project closeout documents, warranties and final payment requests. * Perform additional construction phase services as required and promote safety.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Must be able to organize and execute responsibilities on multiple projects in varying phases of construction at the same time.
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders, routinely travel and traverse uneven, unpaved terrain and work outside for extended periods of time on construction sites.
  • Must be willing to work outside in varying climate conditions.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
  • Must be able to perform remedial math calculations to determine quantities.
  • Must be able to communicate with engineers, contractors and owners in an effective, professional manner.
  • Good writing and verbal skills, able to take and understand directives from project manager, and coordinate efforts with project manager and project team.
  • Must be experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel, and either Adobe Acrobat or BlueBeam Revu. Candidates with proficiency in these programs will be preferred.
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends and/or overtime if required. Occasions of night and weekend work will be limited.
  • Requires a valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record, and dependable transportation.
  • Requires a transportation worker identification credential (TWIC) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • At least 5 years progressive experience in construction observation or experience related to utility, water, wastewater, drainage, earthwork, and roadway construction is preferred, less than 5 years of experience will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with Louisiana Public Bid Law is preferred.
  • Two-year technical degree in related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with State and local standards, such as LADOTD's "Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges" is preferred.
