The Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for assuring the best interests of BMW are met by providing effective and efficient functional management and direction for the Customs and Export Control Team in the US regarding customs and export control. Ensure compliance with all international trade regulations related to the company's customs and export control business. Keep management informed of the benefits and costs of alternatives where they exist to support the near and long-term growth and profitability targets of the BMW Group.

The Customs Compliance Manager oversees compliance with the laws and regulations of U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Industry and Security and all other government agencies that impact customs and export controls, especially in the areas of Tariff Classification, Origin Management, Free Trade Agreement Solicitation and any other enabling Master Data related evaluation, Anti-Dumping, Punitive Duty Assessment and Export Control related classifications and solicitation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Properly staff, train, organize, direct, guide and provide support for the US Customs and Export Control team
  • Support the customs and export control governance efforts and ensure that all BMW entities operating in the US are fully compliant with US trade compliance regulations
  • Pursue cost savings strategies as a priority within Customs and Export Control team in alignment with BMW Group strategies
  • Monitor the latest developments in US trade compliance legislation.
    Advocate and represent the international business interests of BMW by attending and participating in expert groups on international trade
  • Drive efficiency and strengthen compliance by participating in related BMW projects and automation efforts
  • Serve as a consultant and provide necessary services to other departments concerning customs and export control issues
  • Support standardization and harmonization of customs and export control compliance operations and processes within US BMW entities
  • Support and conduct risk assessments to identify compliance concerns and coordinate with appropriate strategic partners to achieve the resolution
  • Interface with various US Customs-, Export Control Authority- and Participating Government Agency (PGA) personnel. As well as maintain excellent working relationships with the same regarding issues related to the various areas of classification, Participation in relevant Customs/ Export Controls Working Group & subsequent sub-working group directly with US Customs personnel
  • Communicate with the customs account manager, local port-, Customs-, PGA- or Export Control Authority officials regarding various areas of classification

The pay range for this role is: $119,583.00 - $152,492.00.

The selected candidate's education, skills, experience, and location will be used to determine the final salary offer. All pay ranges are based on a full-time work schedule. This statement is in accordance with state and local pay disclosure requirements.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree - preferably in International Business or related field
  • Licensed Customs Broker required
  • 6+ years of experience in trade compliance
  • 4+ years of supervisory/leadership experience
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills

Preferences:

  • 1+ years of SAP experience, especially in FI, MM, SD modules or SAP GTS
