KEMET, a YAGEO company, is seeking an SEM Failure Analyst in our Simpsonville, SC location.

Job Description:

  • Document the failure and perform electrical characterization of it.
  • Perform non-destructive and destructive analysis of the components to determine the failure site/cause.
  • Work with other teams to help determine the root cause.
  • Prepare samples to perform, electrical testing, optical microscopy, SEM, EDS, X-ray, and other techniques as needed for failure analysis.
  • Provide reports on the failure analysis to communicate with other teams.
  • Support other team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Two-year degree in Electrical/Electronics, Material Science, Physics or related field with 5 - 10 years of experience. A degree Materials Science, Physics, Electrical or related field is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • The successful candidate must have hands-on experience performing Failure Analysis of electronic components (including sample preparation and analysis).
  • Ability to utilize regular electrical test equipment to perform basic electrical characterization of components such as capacitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented and thorough with analysis.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team with little supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated and energetic/creative in problem solving.
  • Desire and ability to learn and grow technically.
  • Basic understanding of electrical components functionality is highly desired.

Preferred: Experience with failure analysis of capacitors and powder metallurgy process is a plus. The ability to perform SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis is highly desired.
