Job Summary

Ensures safe and efficient patient care by working cooperatively with staff and volunteers to provide care for patients, assist dentists with dental procedures, and support staff with treatment room prep, charting in Eaglesoft, and maintaining supply inventory. Assistant will also maintain knowledge of and adhere to infection control guidelines, patient privacy regulations and clinic policies/procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols. 20%
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments. 30%
  • Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification and monitoring patients. 10%
  • Preparing patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating and draping patient; and educating patients by giving oral hygiene and postoperative instructions. 20%
  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records. 10%
  • Assists clinic coordinator with maintaining dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; and communicating supply needs to coordinator for ordering. 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • N/A

Required Certifications

  • Must obtain and maintain a Nitrous Oxide Certification from the South Carolina Board of Dentistry within 3 months of hire.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting Program
  • 1 year of Dental Assistant experience preferrred.
  • Experience with EPIC Wisdom - preferred
