The Opportunity
Michelin has an immediate opening in for a Corporate Counsel with an Employment and Labor Law Focus who will provide legal advice on employment law, ERISA/benefits law and labor law to internal clients and implement actions to proactively reduce risks in those areas. The ideal candidate will oversee litigation in this area and manage the performance of external legal counsel and external counsel budgets. The ideal candidate must be adept at handling sensitive information and be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality while displaying professionalism in all aspects of the position. Commitment to excellence and the ability to deal tactfully and professionally with all levels of internal/external partners, company management and external legal counsel are qualities that will drive success in this role. This role is in a fast-paced environment and will require that you be able to handle multiple tasks and rapidly re-prioritize same based upon dynamic and evolving needs. What Will You Do:
* Performs and/or leads all levels of legal and factual research and provides supporting documentation in response to client requests and in conjunction with development of legal strategy.
* Provides reporting to senior Law Department and company management on meaningful issues and topics.
* Develops, implements, and maintains internal systems that promote effective, relevant and efficient legal services to internal business partners.
* Provides legal training to employees within the company on employment-related topics.
* Responsible for the preparation of Position Statements and the responses and negotiations for state and federal Charges of Discrimination.

What Will You Bring:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited institution. Admission to and good standing in any state bar or DC bar.

  • 2-4 years employment law experience; experience practicing in federal courts

  • 2+ years Big Law employment law experience preferred

  • In-house counsel experience preferred

  • Proven, specific experience with workplace disputes, terminations, employee misconduct, discrimination claims, disability, and medical leave issues (ADA, FMLA), workplace safety, company human resource policy and company guidelines.

  • Specific experience with employment related agencies (EEOC, NLRB, OSHA), defending charges and employment litigation as well as training managers and workforce.

  • Experience with ERISA/benefits and data privacy issues preferred.

  • Ability to organize technical and non-technical information logically and effectively.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including teamwork, managing conflict and creativity.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn other software systems.
