Job Summary

Collects specimens from patients, assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients, and conducts routine and stat tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performs related duties following established standards and practices under limited supervision.

Accountabilities

  • Collects, retrieves and processes specimens as ordered, using appropriate or specified procedures and equipment for collecting and handling specimens including completion of required paperwork for specimen processing.\u00A0 Performs analysis using appropriate procedures with precision and accuracy. - 50%
  • Performs all quality control, maintenance testing and instrument check procedures and maintains related records. - 25%
  • Maintains laboratory records as required and assists in preparing reports by compiling information including Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance procedures, Proficiency Testing and assigning and training staff as necessary. - 10%
  • Assists in care of patient prior to, during and after collection. - 5%
  • Instructs patients on urine collection procedures. - 5%
  • Evaluates and maintains supply inventory as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.\u00A0 Cleans and sterilizes equipment, instruments and work area. - 5%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Job related course work beyond High School - Phlebotomy
  • 5 Years -\u00A0Phlebotomy experience with collecting, processing and testing specimens.

    • N/A

    • N/A

    Other Required Skills and Experience

    • Experience with BAT & DOT drug screen operations and calibration of BAT Analyzer. - Preferred
