Project Manager - Defense Production

Job Functions (Essential)
  1. Track the land and naval defense project portfolio, facilitate review meetings and follow-up on open items for ongoing defense projects at US production plants.
  2. Ensure project production and sales requirements are aligned for assembly and delivery.
  3. Develop and execute the project communication strategy of new model releases between Development, Product Engineering and other teams within Operations.
  4. Work in partnership with cross-functional teams and departments to ensure quality and reliability standards are maintained.
  5. Assess the impact of project part availability, delivery timelines and determine if assembly can produce the engine as required.
  6. Advise management of the project status and problems, or potential problems, on a regular basis.
  7. Create and implement PgO project requirements to meet project milestones and ensure project is on time and within budget.
  8. Support the governmental sales department by being the plant representative that delivers customer expectations and ensures adherence to all production contractual commitments.
  9. Support project implementation of production lines, develop and implement ramp up and ramp down project plans for new and existing product lines.
  10. Establishes achievable but challenging short and long-term goals designed to promote and increase Rolls-Royce Power Systems market penetration in the Defense market.
  11. Maintains regular contacts and provides responsive sales & service assistance to OEM's, distributors, dealers and end-users.
  12. Collaborates closely with engineering teams in US and Germany regarding defense projects.
  13. Tracks and reports contractual obligations related to production and deliverables, supports sales managers with information, production related reports, customer visits and witness tests.
  14. Resolves customer concerns and complaints in a timely manner that will create goodwill and future sales.
  15. Develops and maintains close working relationship with OEM personnel for the purpose of maintaining and increasing penetration of sales.
  16. Prepares and presents professional sales presentations to OEM dealers & end-users.
  17. Attend and provide sales leadership for trade shows and events and reports activities to management.
  18. Promote a compliance culture in area of responsibility and live the letter and spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct.
  19. Perform special projects as required.

Qualifications:

Qualifications (Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Required:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering and 5 years of experience in sales, service, manufacturing, or project management; or 9 years of experience in sales, service, manufacturing, or project management roles
  2. Self-starter with the ability to work extended periods without supervision
  3. Excellent ability to quickly gather facts, draw conclusions and make independent decisions
  4. Excellent ability to understand, review, and analyze blueprints and technical drawings
  5. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time with competitive needs and deadlines
  6. Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills
  7. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  8. Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines and systems
  9. Strong level of analytical ability
  10. Strong leadership skills, especially in addressing issues that cross internal departments
  11. Ability to travel domestic & international (10-20%)
  12. Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite


Preferred:
  1. Previous experience managing product launches and resolving launch issues
  2. Knowledgeable of MTU products.
  3. Knowledgeable of US Army, Marine Corps & Navy culture
  4. Knowledge of military land and naval based vehicles, equipment and programs
  5. Experience in defense contracting
  6. German language experience

Daily work is performed in an office, plant and outside sales environments. This position has a traditional work schedule (Monday - Friday) and sometimes may have a non-traditional schedule.

While performing duties of this position, employee will visit the customer's site and may be required to work inside or outside of the facility. While working outside, employees will occasionally endure hot, cold, and humid temperature conditions. The employee is also occasionally required to work in environmental conditions where there are fumes, odors, gases, and dust. Please note, the conditions can be hazardous.

While performing duties of this position, the employee is regularly requested to sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk and regularly requested to activate a keyboard or mouse within the work environment

Please note, while the primary work environment is in an office/plant environment with periodic visits to customer sites, the employee is responsible for wearing hearing and other personal protective equipment as needed.
Specific vision requirements for this position include having the ability to adjust focus and see in color.
