Job Description

The Application Engineer is responsible for the successful performance of the press fabric on the paper machine. The job requires an intimate knowledge of both the press fabric manufacturing process, as well as the specific papermaking requirements for that fabric on the customer's machine. A concentration or specialization on a particular paper grade is usually developed so that the successful engineer becomes one of a very small number of worldwide experts in clothing a paper machine.

Application Engineers, once fully trained, are assigned account responsibility by the Product Manager. He/She is responsible for the planning of all product design and any development activity for each customer he/she is assigned to.

  1. Maintain records for each customer including: sales and service reports, records of previous designs and any design modifications, and the performance of each design.

  1. Discuss on a regular basis specific customers with sales or service personnel. This would include performance of fabrics, problems with a customer, future trials, new development products, and requests for information or recommendations.

  1. Meet with the Product Manager on a routine basis to keep abreast of the direction of the Press Fabrics Division.

  1. Meet regularly with the Product Manager on an informal basis to review specific customers or problems.

  1. Work on various projects that will either help us understand our products or the paper machine better. This may also include working on new products or process modifications to improve existing products. When completed, the results of the work are issued in a report to the application/design personnel and other appropriate individuals. It may also be reviewed at one of the semiannual design reviews depending on the relevancy.

  1. Travel to our customers to gain firsthand knowledge of our products, discuss future trials, any problems, and to better know and understand the customer and paper machines.

  1. Data analysis of product output, service reports, and laboratory reports on an as needed basis.

B.S. Degree in an Engineering discipline, a Physical Science or commensurate industry experience.

A strong engineering background with an aptitude for system mechanics for large papermaking equipment including familiarity with concepts such as mass balances, vibration theory, and material compression phenomena.

- Attention to detail, particularly in analysis, problem solving, and procedure optimization

- Experience in public speaking and technical presentations to customers

- An aptitude for technical writing

- Strong computer background using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

- Experience or knowledge of the manufacturing process for press fabrics as well as the papermaking process.
