Registered Nurse (RN)
The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is currently hiring registered nurses to join our team of dedicated professionals. This position if for every Saturday and Sunday 7:00a-7:30p making this a part time position at 24 hours per week.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: To deliver quality patient care to adult, adolescent and geriatric patients who may need psychiatric or chemical dependency related treatment
JOB REQUIREMENTS
(a) Helping identify patients' problems, needs, and strengths
(b) Suggesting modifications to treatment plan based on observations of patients' behavior
(c) Providing input into discharge planning
(a) Monitoring patients' progress
(b) Communication information regarding patients' behavior to other member of treatment team
(c) Maintains communication with patient, family members and referral sources in patients' interests
(d) Facilitates/ co-facilitates didactic groups, community meetings, or drug or alcohol education groups
(e) Encouraging and facilitating patients' participation in therapeutic activities
(f) Supervising patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment
(g) Providing input during shift report

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
ADN or BSN in nursing from accredited School of Nursing required. Must possess current South Carolina RN license. Must demonstrate sound leadership skill and utilize these skills in organizing the activities and schedules for medical and/or non-medical tasks of the patient population for a given shift. Must have a record of consistently high quality of clinical and interpersonal skills to be an exemplary role model to others. Displays basic knowledge of treatment procedures; displays knowledge of interventions common to acute psychotic as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practice; basic knowledge of abnormal psychology and application of this knowledge through the provision of nursing care; basic knowledge of medical terminology especially those terms associated with the treatment of psychiatric and addictive disease care; thorough familiarity of psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications as a part of the treatment of psychiatric and addictive disease care; basic teaching and training skills; skill in facility or co-facilitation of psycho-educational groups, eligible for CPR certification; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers; flexibility regarding schedule and work assignment; willingness to maintain all medical/treatment as highly confidential.
In the absence of any of these qualifications upon hire, with the exclusion of licensure, employee must demonstrate the ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within a reasonable time frame via the organization's orientation and training program
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT
EKG machine, Blood pressure cuff, glucometer, stethoscope, electronic and manual thermometer, oxygen equipment, crash cart and relative items, laboratory equipment, including specimen collection devices, centrifuge, various restraint devices, and leather restraints, copier/fax/telephone/tape recorder/office supplies
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Possible exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior; potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and, other hazardous waste. Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situation such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner. Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic. Ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another. Must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. Able to assist in patient restraints and seclusions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 50-100 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday.
Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken language or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz,1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities. While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.
