Job Summary

Provides care to a specific patient population within the guidelines of written protocols. Follows established nursing standards, procedures, and practices.

  • Accountabilities

  • Diagnoses patient conditions and their causes. Interviews patients about symptoms and complaints, and determines if a psychiatric disorder has a physiological or emotional basis.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 20%
  • Screens patients for physical illness and analyzes explanations for psychiatric illness, such as developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma or social or cultural problems. Assesses risk factors for mental illness and broader wellness evaluations.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 20%
  • Provides a range of therapies to patients. Conducts individual, group or family counseling sessions.\u00A0 Writes prescriptions for psychotropic medications under the supervision of psychiatrists and when state regulations allow.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 - 15%
  • For patients on medications, monitors the use and documents treatment results. For patients experiencing a mental crisis, may intervene with therapy or medication. Responsible for case management.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 - 15%
  • Evaluates patient progress and reports results to the treatment team. Works with other medical professionals to evaluate or change treatment plans.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 - 10%
  • Educates staff and patients\u2019 families about mental illness, treatment and prevention.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 - 10%
  • Participates in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities.\u00A0 - 5%
  • Participates in professional activities.\u00A0 \u00A0Also, may conduct research, evaluate outcomes or provide peer review for scholarly publications.\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 - 5%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Master's Degree - Nursing; Nurse Practitioner; Degree Emphasis or Program Certificate equivalent.\u00A0 Also must have post-graduate education and/or certification in Psychiatry.\u00A0

Required Certifications, Registries, Licenses

10 years of Psychiatry Staff Nursing experience will be considered an equivalent substitution for \u00A0post graduate education and/or certifications in Psychiatry and 1 year as a Nurse Practitioner

South Carolina Official Recognition Nurse Practitioner - NLNP

Prescriptive Authority South Carolina Nursing License

South Carolina Controlled Substance license; Federal DEA license

Optional

In lieu of the experience and/or educational requirements indicated above a combination of education, training, and/or experience will be considered an equivalent substitution:\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 10 years of Psychiatry Staff Nursing experience will be considered an equivalent substitution for \u00A0post graduate education and/or certifications in Psychiatry and 1 year as a Nurse Practitioner
