Executive Summary:

The Staff Material Planner/Buyer is responsible for managing the Purchasing activity (purchase negotiated components and raw materials from vendors) for key commodities, ensuring that facilities have parts in quantity and dates required to meet with production schedules without any extra cost.

The Staff Material Planner/Buyer provides instructions and pre-established guidelines to his team (Material Planner/Buyer) to perform the functions of the job.

Typically reports to the Sr Mgr Material Planner/Buyer.

Job Functions:

  • Oversees the purchasing for materials of key commodities for the operation of the company, in addition to related inventory items
  • Monthly responsibilities include defining, communicating and tracking supply plan with suppliers including long term components
  • Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges
  • Monitor critical trend reports and Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
  • Establish and maintain purchasing practices and policies aligned with corporate guidelines
  • Direct manages Material Planner/Buyers, set long term goals and priorities, provide day-to-day leadership and coaching
  • Work closely with cross functional teams (Procurement, Scheduling, Demand Planning, Logistics, Production) to drive process improvement
  • Build strong strategic relationships with all levels of management
  • Coach, counsel, and provide opportunities for personal growth and career development
  • Coach and train new hires

Key Results:

  • Ensuring that direct reports support factory needs within a timeframe required to meet business objectives

  • Provides continual and sufficient communication to various functions as needed

  • Assist with regular re-negotiations of terms of business/service agreements and performance evaluation with suppliers, taking corrective action as required.

  • Achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) goals.

  • Provides leadership to team to ensure goals are achieved .

Required Education / Experience / Certificates

Years of Experience: Five+ years of experience material planning/buying within a MRP environment.

Education/Training: College degree or its equivalent required.

Licenses/Certificates: APICS or other Supply Chain Certification.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation. Must be able to effectively interact with all levels of staff.
  • Solid experience in negotiating with global suppliers;

  • Thorough understanding of supply chain management relating to production planning, procurement, global distribution practices, inventory management and logistics

  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems, knowledge of Oracle EBS and ASCP preferred.

  • Good understanding of business strategy

  • High level of computer literacy, to include MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel (pivot table) and Outlook
  • Fluency in English mandatory.

  • Proven leadership and organization ability

Travel Requirements:

Global travel is required; approximately 40 percent of the time
