Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking a Garage Part-Time Helper to join the CMC Steel Texas Maintenance Department team to provide critical support to day to day plant operations. Steel Texas is one of CMC's eleven steel mills that have a combined annual capacity of almost eight million tons. By producing steel from recycled metal in electric arc furnaces, we consume far fewer natural resources than blast furnace steelmakers. Using recycled metal allows us to lower CO2 emissions by 58%. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Drain water from used oil tanks.
  • Clean and monitor operation of car wash.
  • Fill paper towel dispensers and absorbent barrels.
  • Haul off empty contaminated debris containers, aerosol cans, and plastic bottles for recycling.
  • Monitor soap level in water softeners.
  • Monitor the pit debris level to notify supervisor when clean-out is needed.
  • Maintain used battery area for scrap and warranty.
  • Maintain the washer fluid levels and change the fuel filters, as needed.
  • Assist with general clean up to maintain a clean work area which could include using the pressure washer, as needed.
  • Assist in receiving parts and audits performed in the parts room.
  • Assist with preparing equipment for painting in the paint room.
  • Assist with preparing for upcoming jobs for the Tire and Welding Shop.
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Students must be working towards/enrolled in technical trade/school or college.
  • Experience is welcomed and/or vocational school, but willing to train the right candidate.
  • Must provide own tools.
  • Must keep work area clean and safe.
  • Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, correctly, and safely.
  • Must comply with all plant specific rules, procedures and duties.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Push and pull up to 90 lbs. and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with exposure to inside and outside temperatures, loud noise, heights, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 12 hours, frequent walking or climbing stairs.
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
