We currently have a need for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern. This position will report to the Wafer Manufacturing group at our Seagate facility located in Bloomington, MN.

This position will work on projects related to improving operational efficiencies in the Wafer manufacturing process. Evaluation, testing and deployment of advanced material handling systems will be the focus of this internship.

Responsible for performing functions associated with all manufacturing operations, including working with engineers in set-up and calibration tasks. Typical duties: Uses sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct on-line adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment. Determines and may assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process. Works with engineers in conducting experiments. Includes management jobs responsible for the management of a variety of engineering services functions, which could include drafting, design support, document control, or similar engineering support activities.

This intern must be able to work safely in a cleanroom environment and follow all cleanroom protocol.

Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments.

Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Process Optimization
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Design of Experiments
  • Data Collection and Statistical Data Analysis
  • Production Machinery Installation and/or Debugging
  • Technical Support for Product Launches
  • Gauge Capability Studies
  • Process Documentation and Training

Interns typically work Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm. The hours are subject to change with or without notice at the sole discretion of Seagate.


  • This Intern must have completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Physics.
  • GPA 3.0 or above.
  • This individual should have a substantial understanding of the position, and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks.


  • Statistical analysis application experience (Minitab, JMP)
  • Magnetic recording head and/or semiconductor manufacturing experience
  • Automation and/or Robotic experience
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment
  • Lean manufacturing experience
  • CAD experience
