SSS is currently seeking a SAS Programmer for Public Health Research to serve on a multi-disciplinary team that conducts analyses and reports on findings from clinical- and population-based epidemiological studies on behalf of the federal government. The studies we conduct focus on the impact of the physical and social environment on human health and well-being, as well as genetic, occupational, and lifestyle risk factors. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes data managers, analysts, and operations staff. You will provide data management support for these studies by developing programs to build study datasets, as well as to generate reports to inform the progress of the studies and to summarize the study data from a scientific and operational perspective. This position offers opportunities for professional development, innovation, and collaboration across disciplines.

Our ideal candidate for this position would have an MPH (or similar advanced degree), prior experience conducting public health research, excellent communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail.

Responsibilities
  • Writing, testing, and revising SAS programs.
  • Creating analytical datasets.
  • Fulfillment of data requests both internally and externally
  • Conducting quality control of previously written statistical and data management programs.
  • Constructing codebooks and format files.
  • Formatting tables and compiling reports.
  • Producing graphical output
Qualifications
  • Master’s in Public Health or an advanced degree in a related field. Relevant prior experience will be considered in the absence of an advanced degree.
  • Prior experience using SAS for data management, which includes writing programs for cleaning and reporting of study data as well as generating analytical datasets.
  • Experience with other statistical software (e.g., STATA, R, SUDAAN) is highly desirable
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills when interfacing with colleagues, project leaders, and clients
  • Actively collaborates with other data managers and staff from other functional areas to plan, implement, monitor, and complete assignments
  • Applies a systematic approach to complete tasks that involve ambiguity, uncertainty, and other challenges
  • Embraces and engages in “thinking outside the box” when faced with difficult challenges.
