JMT's Richmond Office is looking for a Water Resources Intern to be responsible for various stormwater and drainage engineering tasks and projects to enhance their experience in the field and in the office utilizing their education.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Enter data into computer models
  • Calculate drainage areas for roadway projects
  • Assist with development of drainage plans, stormwater management plans and erosion and sediment control plans
  • Research water related information for roadway projects and stormwater management plans
  • Assist with administrative duties
  • Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
  • Assist with layout and design of routine stormwater related projects
  • Develop and prepare specifications
  • Maintain accurate and current project documentation



Required Skills
  • Interest in Water Resources Engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Availability to perform field work


Required Experience
  • Full time student at the freshman, sophomore, junior, or graduate level pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related major
  • Participant in team-based management style
  • Background in civil design including Microstation/AutoCAD
  • Proven track record of innovative solutions to difficult problems
  • Previous civil engineering internship experience preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment and in the field. Office Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Field work may involve inspections of culverts and stormwater BMPs; so individual must be safety conscious. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
