The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a Washington-based non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Freeman Chair in China Studies at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) is recruiting a part-time, paid Summer 2018 (beginning May 28, 2018) intern who can provide dedicated research support for projects regarding China's domestic and international economic issues. The ideal candidate will have substantive knowledge on contemporary China's economy and policy process, and familiarity with how to find and analyze primary Chinese documents and data. Because of the fast-paced work environment, interns should be motivated self-starters that are able to engage in a wide variety of analytic and logistical tasks.

  • Assisting in research, writing and analysis for articles, conference reports, grant proposals, and other such projects as dictated by program needs
  • Assisting in spot and background research
  • Assisting with any special tasks, presentations, projects, and reports
  • Assisting in event planning and staffing
  • Curating the Freeman Chair social media platform
  • Performing a variety of other Freeman Chair related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Applicants currently enrolled in or those that have recently completed a master's degree are preferred
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be able to commit to 20 hours a week
  • Must have strong research, analysis, and writing skills
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have the ability to work independently
  • Must have the ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Must demonstrate academic/professional background on China's economy and international economic relations
  • Must be able to read Chinese-language documents related to China's economy and familiar with common sources of Chinese economic data
  • Experience with quantitative statistics preferred
