This role is a 10 week internship starting in the summer of 2018.

World Wide Engineering (WWE) Deployment and Re-Engineering

The WWE Deployment Team will take a lead role in ensuring the successful deployment and launch of New Technologies and Processes Developed with Amazon's World Wide Engineering Team. The role is focused specifically on "New" Technologies and Processes. The internship position will be working directly with the World Wide Engineering Team, and supporting the Regional Operational Teams in launching these new technologies.


Additionally, the team you will work on will be supporting the Seattle-Based Design & Engineering team in developing solutions and applications utilizing new technologies and processes, as well as re-engineering launched technologies and processes for continuous improvements.

A successful candidate should be familiar with the integration and launch of complex automated solutions. These solutions will involve many types of automation including robotics, sortation and conveyance, controls integration, vision systems, and process development/optimization.

What is fulfillment you ask? Fulfillment is how we refer to completing or fulfilling a customer's Amazon.com order and the acts of picking, packing, shipping and delivering their order to meet or exceed their expectations!

Job Requirements:
* Working towards a bachelor's degree with a graduation date between December 2018-June 2019
* Willingness to work overtime both in peak season and as needed
* Willingness to relocate nationwide
* Willingness to travel significantly to support Amazon's network locations based within North America, as well as the Seattle Engineering Headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in leading the Deployment, Launch, and Continuous Improvement of New Technologies & Process Automation developed within Amazon's World Wide Engineering Team.
* Support the development of New Process Automation, related to complex material flow/transportation and human/machine efficiency problems throughout the global Amazon supply chain.
* Support the design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the fulfillment and transportation network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
* Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to generate high quality, cost effective solutions in very short periods of time.
* Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
* Support current production activities when required to ensure high availability of the production systems related to new technologies
* Lead continuous improvement processes to improve machine uptime and reduce machine breakdowns related to new technologies
* Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and quality issues related to new technologies
* Design, fabricate, implement, and fully document equipment improvements and modifications related to new technologies



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Currently working towards a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with a graduation date between December 2018 and June 2019




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience working with the designs of complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
* Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
* Proficiency using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.
* Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
* Design-in-Safety experience
* Familiarity or experience working with PLC and/or PC based controls design, development, implementation and support.
* Familiarity with Industrial networking and communications
* Ability to travel significantly to support Amazon's network locations based within North America, as well as the Seattle Engineering Headquarters.
* Strong analytical skills, Self-motivated and customer-centric
* Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
