Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking a full-time Garage Diesel Mechanic to join the CMC Steel Texas Maintenance team to provide critical support to day to day plant operations. Steel Texas is one of CMC's eleven steel mills that have a combined annual capacity of almost eight million tons. By producing steel from recycled metal in electric arc furnaces, we consume far fewer natural resources than blast furnace steelmakers. Using recycled metal allows us to lower CO2 emissions by 58%. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions on equipment and repairs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on engines and hydraulic systems on and off road Mobile equipment (this will also include vehicles such as trucks and trailers) and also maintaining stationary equipment.
  • Performs a wide range of physical activity including operating aerial lifts at various heights.
  • Operates mobile equipment loaders, forklifts, trucks, and material handlers and other various equipment in the plant.
  • Ensures all jobs are completed in a proficient and in a safe manner hen working within the plant or within the garage shops areas.
  • Uses computers to issue parts and update comments on work orders/task list including diagnostic programs for engines and hydraulic systems, OEM and brake systems.
  • Operates fuel service truck for wet hosing mobile equipment within the plant.
  • Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when performing a job.
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, engines, and mobile equipment, and vehicles
  • Experience is welcomed and/or vocational school, but willing to train the right candidate
  • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Must provide own tools
  • Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, correctly, and safely
  • Must comply with all plant specific rules, procedures and duties
  • Must keep work area clean and safe
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
